Acknowledging the service of BBMP’s pourakarmikas and those fighting the pandemic while clearing waste in the city, the mayor of Bengaluru handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the Pourakarmika Association to hand over the same to the family of a woman pourakarmika who died of COVID-19 on July 10. According to reports, the families of four more frontline COVID warriors will also receive compensation from the BBMP.

The service of Nagaratha, a woman pourakarmika who lost her life battling coronavirus, has been acknowledged by the BBMP. Her family was provided a cheque of Rs 10 lakh. So far, five BBMP frontline workers, including a driver, have died due to the coronavirus.

As per the BBMP Pourakarmika Association, each Pourakarmika working under BBMP is covered under a Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme. They are yet to receive these benefits.
Apart from this, recognising the efforts put in by these civic body workers, the BBMP has already given Rs 10 lakh to the family of one pourakamika, and in a day or two, the families of others are expected to receive the same.
