Tribal displacement finds place in Sandalwood with debutante Ninasam Manju's Kanneri
It seems that debutante directors in the Kannada film industry are finding good opportunities as they are able to bring in art into commercial cinema scripts. The social issue regarding tribals told through the thriller Kanneri, directed by Ninasam Manju, has found backing from auto lamps manufacturer PP Hebbar and his friend KS Chandrashekar.
Tribal displacement and the issues concerning Talaguppa and HD Kote tribes is the core subject of debutant director Ninasam Manju's debut project Kanneri. The title means a new season.
The life of tribals, the way they live in the forest and the change once they are displaced and what they undergo has been strung together in the screenplay.
The artists underwent a one-month training at a tribal camp to get a feel of the character they play.
The film was shot in the deep forest at Talaguppa near Shivamogga and HD Kote in Hassan and other parts of Karnataka.
Kari Subbu who played a killer in Dandupalaya has been roped in to play an important character.
