Jodhpur locals allege police-gangsters nexus in land mafia; demand probe

The villagers alleged that two accused and three weapons were handed over to police but they were left free without taking any action against them

Jodhpur: Time and again many episodes have been brought out in the open the growing menace of land mafia in Rajasthan. In a recent incident, Anganwa villagers in Rajasthan complained about the hooliganism of gangsters who have set their eyes on vast lands in the chief minister’s constituency. The villagers approached the administration after around 60-70 gangsters beat up women and fired in the air when the villagers tried to stop them from encroaching the land. However, the three members of the gang were released after the villagers had handed them over to police. The villagers alleged that the SHO is in cahoots with the gangsters. This has raised several doubts over police. The villagers submitted a memorandum to the Jodhpur district collector, demanding a fair investigation into the entire sequence of events.
