New Aadhaar rule may cause 2 lakh students to hungry in AP

It seems that the new decision taken by the Union Ministry will make almost 2 lakh school kids miss their mid-day meals in Andhra Pradesh. The Union Ministry recently made Aadhaar Card mandatory for school students and cooking staff so that they can keep a control on the irregularities.

Over 36 lakh school students have been benefitting from the mid-day meal scheme in Andhra Pradesh. Surprisingly, only 48 percent of the children aged below 5 years and 83 percent children between 5 – 16 years of age are holders of Aadhaar Card in Andhra Pradesh, a report of New Indian Express revealed. On top of that, one-third of the children below five years of age in the state are undernourished.

The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has already sent out notices to the state governments where it is mentioned that Aadhaar Card should be made compulsory for the students. The children and their parents have time till 30th June to get their Aadhaar Card done.

“I am a single mother of three children and I cannot afford to provide proper food and clothes to my children. In fact, I am sending them to schools so that they have a happy meal at least once a day. But now this Aadhaar rule, I fear that they would miss that single meal too. I am not an educated woman and I earn my daily bread by working as a maid in various houses,” V Rangamma was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
