Blaming women? Time to ban men from Bengaluru streets

  • Indian men like to imagine somehow the victims are to blame for the crime.
  • But this logic is never extended to murder, theft or other crimes.
  • If anyone should be prevented from walking the streets, it is men.

It is a strange irony that whenever Indian women are assaulted, abused and tortured, there is always a host of men who emerge to share their silly view that in some way, the women are themselves to blame for their attack.

Disgusting metaphors are shared, and much 'gyan' is given on how it would have all never happened "if the woman was not there". Why is it that a large section of this country remains convinced at all times that the only solution is to ban women.

If a murder entered their home and killed either them or their family members, will these same people come out and say that perhaps this crime would not have happened if the inhabitants had not been at home?

Isn't that the answer to all crime? All evil in the world can be avoided if the victim is not present. But as should be obvious, this is an absurd idea brought forth by people who clearly have not thought too deeply about the words coming out of their mouths.

How is crime prevented? The most common solution in India is to keep the criminals separate from the public for a specified period and then try to reform them during their isolation.

If one of the most common crimes in India is the sexual assault of women by men, then it is clear that the real solution here is to isolate the criminals from the victims - a.k.a keep the men away.

Even if Bengaluru women somehow stayed away from the infamous New Year Celebrations on MG Road, they would still be molested everywhere they go. The only real way to ensure that there is a 99% chance of no molestations is to get rid of the men. Ban men from entering the area next year and this entire issue can be solved in a heartbeat.

Yes, this solution is over-the-top and ludicrous. However, the repeated claims of many Indians blaming the victim for the crime is even more silly and nothing more than a bad joke. And to top it all those ideas don't even work. There is no evidence that a woman will not face sexual abuse if she is isolated from public life.

However, the banning of all men from public roads during celebrations is at the very least guaranteed to deliver results instantly.
