The active cases of the Nipah virus now stand at 4 in Kerala. Earlier, two persons succumbed to the disease. The situation of a 9-year-old boy continues to remain critical.

 The 11 samples that were sent for Nipah testing turned negative on Thursday (Sep 14). The number of people on the contact list has increased to 950, with 213 of them considered high-risk. The contact list also contains 287 health workers.

Following the outbreak of the Nipah virus in Kozhikode, the district administration has declared a holiday for educational institutions till Saturday (Sep 16). At the same time, monoclonal antibody has arrived in the state, informed Health Minister Veena George.

Two health workers are suspected to have symptoms of Nipah virus. Their samples have been sent to the Pune National Institute of Virology (NIV).

An expert team appointed by the central government is monitoring the situation of Nipah virus in Kerala's Kozhikode. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called a high level meeting to discuss Nipah situation. The meeting will be held online at 4.30 pm.

Nipah virus can lead to respiratory problems and fatal encephalitis, with symptoms ranging from fever and headache to disorientation and seizures. Seven village panchayats in Kozhikode have been declared containment zones to limit the virus's spread.
