In the 1999 elections in Kerala, the people of Thiruvananthapuram cast their votes using electronic voting machines for the first time. K Karunakaran's tactics secured victory for the Congress in this constituency.

Mizoram Election 2023: Chief Minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga has said that he could not cast a vote as the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) malfunctioned.  Zoramthanga said he would visit his constituency and come back to the polling station to cast his vote again after a meeting.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court declined to entertain a plea challenging the procedure for conducting the 'first level checking' (FLC) of EVMs and VVPATs, as upheld by the Delhi High Court, ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Karnataka Election 2023 Results: Over 2.6 lakh voters opted for NOTA. According to data available at 3.30 p.m., 2,59,278 (0.7%) of the almost 3.84 crore persons who voted on Wednesday used the NOTA option.

The Election Commissioners briefed the German minister briefed about the manner in which the polling body extensively used technology to conduct elections broadly under three verticals of political parties/candidates, voters' participation and election machinery logistics. 

On Sunday, counting of votes began at 8 am with postal ballots being counted first, followed by EVM counting at 8:30 am. The counting of votes will be completed in 15 rounds. The result is expected to be out in the afternoon.

The presidential election is held in accordance with the system of proportional representation in which every elector can mark as many preferences for candidates as are contesting the election. According to officials, the EVMs have not been designed to compute votes based on preference; it requires an altogether different technology.

The federation is calling for the action in response to the federal government's refusal to undertake a caste-based census of the Other Backward Classes (OBC). They are also opposing the usage of EVMs during elections and the issue of reservations for the SC/ST/OBC in the private sector.
