English pacer Jofra Archer has undoubtedly cemented his place in the national side as one of the most profound fast bowlers of the side. As he continues to make a tremendous impact across formats, he is a bit injury-prone, hurting the sides he represents.

Currently, he is nursing a hand injury he suffered during the Tests against India on England's ongoing tour. Although he did take part in the Twenty20 Internationals, he did so without adequate recovery.

As a result, he has been ruled out of the continuing One-Day Internationals against the same side. Meanwhile, a fresh update from England and Wales Cricket Board has stated that he is set to undergo surgery on his right hand, which has now cast doubts on his participation in the Indian Premier League 2021, where he plays for Rajasthan Royals.

"The procedure on Jofra's hand will take place on Monday 29 March so he can recover during the planned break following his elbow injection. Jofra suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series," read a statement from ECB.

"The injury was managed by the ECB's medical team through the tour and it did not impact on his availability. Further investigation and a specialist opinion was sought upon his return to the UK and, in conjunction with the ECB medical panel, it has been decided that surgery is the best option to manage his injury in the longer term," it added.

Last year, Archer had suffered a stress fracture on his right elbow, which had ruled him out of the Sri Lanka tour, only for the tour to be later called off due to the pandemic. Nonetheless, his current injury means that he is likely to be out of RR's IPL campaign for the first half at least, as he continues to be closely monitored by ECB's medial and fitness team since he remains a crucial part of England's plans for ICC World T20 2021.
