English wicketkeeper-batsman proved why he is the side's go-to man in the limited-overs format. He slammed a match-winning century in the second One-Day International against India at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Friday.

With the third and final ODI to be played on Sunday, Bairstow would look to contribute in the same fashion to help the visitor salvage some pride by winning the ODI series, especially after losing the Tests and Twenty20 Internationals. However, the same cannot be said for his Test performance.

Bairstow scored three ducks in the final two Tests, as former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar commented that the Englishman looked 'uninterested' in playing the format. However, Bairstow has come up with a strong reply for Gavaskar.

"First of all, no, I hadn't heard that (Gavaskar's comments), and secondly, I am interested as to how opinion can have been made, especially when there has been no correspondence and communication between myself and him," he said after the second ODI, reports ANI.

"So, he is more than welcome to give me a ring, and I will speak to him about my will to do well in Test cricket and the enjoyment I do get out of playing Test cricket. As I said, my phone is on. If he wants, he can call or message me," he added.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli hailed Bairstow's performance in the ODIs so far, especially for his knock on Friday that took the game away from the Indians. Consequently, Bairstow was delighted with the former's comments.

"It's very kind of him to say that. He's been one of the best players around the world for a period of time. Likewise, I'm pleased to be striking the ball like I am at the moment," concluded Bairstow, reports IANS.
