Voting under the influence: Officials seize 1.31 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs 5.75 crore in Bengaluru

Election Commission officials under the leadership of the district electoral officer seized more than 1.31 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs 5.75 crore from three Lok Sabha constituencies in Bengaluru which they believe was going to be distributed to voters.

Bengaluru: With an aim to ensure free and fair election, district electoral officer N Manjunath Prasad along with police and flying squads have been busy in the city. Officials have so far seized 1.31 lakh litres of liquor. Officials believe that this liquor was meant to be distributed in densely populated areas in Bengaluru to influence voters. The seized liquor is worth Rs 5.75 crore.

According to electoral officer, N Manjunath Prasad, 45 vehicles were also seized. Most of these are from slums where political parties aim to get votes by offering them bottles of booze. A total of 2,573 FIRs have been registered.
