Statue row: Bangalore University to retain both Buddha, Saraswati idols

Bangalore University found itself in the middle of a controversy within its four walls over the idols of Gautam Buddha and Goddess Saraswati. The university has now decided to retain both idols

Bengaluru: Bangalore University, that found itself in the middle of a controversy surrounding the idols of the Gautam Buddha and Goddess Saraswati, has decided to retain both on the premises.

In a meeting chaired by Bangalore University vice chancellor Venugopal KR, it was decided that a suitable place for the Buddha idol will be designated.

Venugopal had stated that there would be no change in the place designated for the Goddess Saraswati idol.

The controversy arose after a few scholars installed a Gautam Buddha idol in place of the Saraswati idol.

Several staff and students were irked by the move and staged a protest demanding for the Saraswati idol.
