Lalbagh prepares for bloom; officials take up asphalting of roads after decades

It took decades for Lalbagh authorities to begin repair work on dilapidated roads and a century-plus-year old well. Director of Lalbagh Botanical Garden Jagadish said that the internal roads will be asphalted within 10 days. All these activities have been undertaken ahead of the annual Independence Day flower show.
 

Bengaluru: It’s pleasant news for walkers and visitors at Lalbagh as authorities of the botanical garden have finally woken up. Authorities have taken up asphalting of internal roads and desilting of a century-plus-old well, thanks to a Rs 2 crore grant.

According to Lalbagh Botanical Gardens director Jagadish, these roads will be fixed in next 10 days and in few weeks the century-plus-old well at Lalbagh’s West Gate will be ready after the accumulated silt and waste is cleared. Authorities have also planted 10,000 flower saplings. The development work is expected to be completed by August ahead of the annual Independence Day flower show.
