BBMP leaves debris behind on streets of Shivajinagar

Although BBMP's decision of clearing illegal shops, hawkers, and footpath encroachments is seen as positive, the implementation or half of it rather has left Shivajinagar in a mess with uncleared debris

Bengaluru: The traders and vendors in Russell Market, Chandni Chowk Road, Shivaji Road and other areas of Shivajinagar have been left in the lurch after BBMP took out a drive to raze unauthorised shops, hawkers and footpath encroachments on Saturday. Two days later, the BBMP has failed in clearing the debris from the demolition. Traders have complained saying that they are unable to attract customers and the situation has impacted their business severely and have thus taken it upon themselves to clear the debris.

Soni, who owns an event management company and supplies sound systems, lashed out at the BBMP for failing to give them prior notice of the clearance drive.

BBMP assistant engineer Praveen A of Shivajinagar ward said that demolition was carried out as per orders, and they have received complaints of debris and garbage strewn near shops and on the roads. “The issue will be addressed in a day or two as the clearance drive is still on," Praveen said.
