West Bengal: Researchers develop technology to source electricity from clothes in IIT Kharagpur

Researchers at IIT Kharagpur have developed a technology that sources electricity from clothes

Kharagpur: The researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur have developed a technology to source electricity from clothes drying in open space. The power which comes from electricity is changing the lives of the rural community.

Speaking to reporters, professor of IIT Kharagpur, Suman Chakraborty said, "'iClothes' are made of cellulose fibers which have charge in their walls. If you immerse a piece of cloth in salt solution and it will flow through fibers and ionise. It generates a continuous voltage. If connected to an external register and it can generate small power. "We have up-scaled this mechanism of generation of power by taking our technology to 'Dhobi Ghat' where washermen dry clothes."
