'Valley of the flowers' is on fire!

Dzuko Valley, a picturesque locale at the border of Manipur and Nagaland, has been engulfed by wildfire over the last couple of days endangering the rich biodiversity there.

Also known as "the valley of the flowers", the  Dzuko Valley is a tourist hotspot.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown.

Wildfire engulfs Dzuko Valley

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter to say, "Very unfortunate, that a wild fire has started at the Dzuko Valley, one of the most beautiful place in Manipur. It probably started about 2-3 days ago from the Nagaland side and crossed over to our side. It is likely that the fire might even reached Mt Iso area today."

The chief minister said that strong winds were making the firefighting operations difficult.

Following an appeal from the Nagaland government, Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force launched a Mi-17V5 helicopter equipped with bambi bucket for firefighting in Dzuko Valley.
