Tamil Nadu Police arrest 7 boys for raping mentally challenged woman

All the accused, school dropouts, were aged 15 to 16 years. They were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board  and sent to the government observation home in Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu.

Erwadi Police have arrested seven youths for allegedly abducting and raping a 21-year-old mentally challenged woman in Tamil Nadu. According to the police, the victim and her speech-impaired father were staying at a rented house at Kattupalli. The abusers raped the woman when she came out to attend to nature's call.

The incident came to light when a local resident alerted the police about the incident. All the accused are school dropouts and aged 15 to 16 years. The accused were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to the government observation home in Palayamkottai.

The accused were arrested under Sections 294 (b) (uttering obscene words), 323 (causing hurt), 376 (rape), 379 (committing theft) and 511 (attempting to commit an offence) of the IPC, the police said.
