Karnataka: People evacuating village after consuming polluted water kills 6, 50 fall ill

As six deaths in a gap of 20 days were reported from Makarabbi village from Vijayanagar in Karnataka, some of the villagers have migrated to nearby villages.

The villagers started to experience health conditions like severe vomiting and dysentery after consuming the polluted water. The first death was reported on September 11 when 72-year-old Basamma died.

On September 23 two more deaths were reported and panic had spread across the village. On October 1, a 50-year-old woman identified as Lakshmamma died due to complications.

The people here say that only after consuming the water, health issues surfaced.

Dr Vinod, taluk health inspector said that two ambulances have been stationed at the village premises to shift people to hospital in case any new cases of vomiting and loose motion is reported.

He also said that two samples have shown that the water is not fit for consumption and as a result drinking water is being supplied to the village.

The village that had a population of about 2000, has drastically reduced as people have migrated to nearby villages.

In the video, it can be seen how black the water is from the borewell and some of the villagers are being treated at hospitals in other districts.

CM announces Rs 3 ex-gratia to families of victims:

District In-charge minister Anand Singh has appraised the matter to CM Bommai in this regard and today the CM announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh for victims.
