Karnataka government’s cheques bounce, flood victims left in lurch

The cheques have bounced as Karnataka government has withheld financial aid for flood victims. The officials reportedly withheld the aid claiming that Beeranagaddi was not completely inundated during floods.

Belagavi: Not long ago, Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa stated that the Centre hasn’t released enough funds for the state to return to normalcy. Now, in a shocking case of government apathy, the 160 cheques issued to flood victims in Belagavi have bounced. The government had issued a cheque of Rs 10,000 each to 160 flood victims at Beeranagaddi village in Gokak taluk of Belagavi district. The cheques have bounced as government has withheld the financial aid. The officials reportedly withheld the aid claiming that Beeranagaddi was not completely inundated during floods. The victims had vacated the village and took shelter in rehabilitation centre for 8 days due to massive floods. The flood victims have condemned the government officials for withholding the financial aid.
