DCW, NCW chiefs say Nirbhaya's soul must have found peace today

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Friday said it is a historic day today as Nirbhaya has got justice after seven years. Welcoming the hanging of four Nirbhaya gang-rape convicts, Maliwal also said that India has given out a strong message to rapists that those who commit such crimes will be hanged. She and Rekha Sharma, chairperson JD National Commission for Women (NCW), said that Nirbhaya's soul must have found peace today. They also emphasised on the need for stringent laws in the country as she expressed gratitude on the hanging of convicts.

 

The four Nirbhaya case convicts have been hanged in Tihar Jail on March 20 at 5:30 in the morning. The hangman Pavan, hailing from Meerut conducted the hanging. Late on March 19 night, the Delhi high court dismissed last minute pleas by convicts seeking stay on execution.
