The cable wires on trees poses a great threat to the green space as well as safety of people. The NGT order to remove hanging cable wires on trees and buildings seems to have been taken lightly and private companies have shown a lackadaisical attitude. The tribunal had taken strong objection to cables encircling trees and has ordered the removal of these wires expeditiously. Private companies have turned a blind eye and ignored the issue. The repeated cases of electrocution in the city have put the spotlight on constructions in close proximity to electricity-related installations. On the bright side, BBMP has begun to make inroads and underground and have started to lay cables below ground level. But it is yet to take action against companies flouting rules. Ironically, there was never a provision for cables to be hung on the trees. So how did we land up here?
