Bengaluru: BBMP corporator’s husband attacked with cow dung for collecting ‘hafta’

Resentment and anger during the lockdown and the impact it has had on businesses has led to an attack on BBMP corporator's husband being attacked with cow dung. The public reportedly accused him of collecting 'hafta' and stated that this was an act of their retaliation

Inspection to check on vendors on the streets in Kalasipalayam Police Station limits by a BBMP corporator's husband turned ugly after few of them picked up a quarrel and attacked him with cow dung.

Dharmaraya Swamy Temple ward corporator Prathibha’s husband Dhanaraj was accused by locals and vendors of 'collecting hafta' causing vendors to heckle him before a person from the crowd threw cow dung at him.

An embarrassed Dhanaraj left the place with his head, neck and shoulders covered in green.

His wife and corporator of the area said, few miscreants in the area are behind this attack. "The miscreants marked an area to allot them space to sell vegetables, despite the market being shifted. Those conducting business there are hawkers, and miscreants would collect hafta from them. Follow these complaints, my husband and myself reported it to officials. Today, the special commissioner had agreed to arrive for inspection. My husband left at 5:30pm and I left 15 minutes later. By the time I reached, he was being attacked. They say we collected hafta. Hence, I am going to file a defamation case as I have evidence.," said Prathibha Dhanaraj, BBMP corporator.
