Andhra Pradesh CM’s idea of 3 capitals prompts farmers to hit the streets

Farmers in Andhra Pradesh staged a demonstration on Thursday against chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's idea of proposing three capitals for the state.

Amaravathi: Opposing the idea of decentralised administration, farmers from several villages in Andhra Pradesh staged a protest by sitting and blocking roads, a day after chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy hinted at making Amaravathi the legislative capital, Vishakapatnam the executive capital and Kurnool the judicial capital.

The protesting farmers said they donated thousands of acres of fertile land for building Amaravati hoping that their future generations will reap the benefits of the capital. But now the government's proposal of shifting the Secretariat and the high court have created doubts on the future of Amaravati. He should immediately withdraw his statement and resume construction works in the capital, they said.

The protesters sat on the road with pesticide bottles in their hands and demanded that Andhra Pradesh chief minister to take back his remarks.
