Life-saving doctor’s demand for dowry pushes wife to commit suicide in Punjab

An Amritsar doctor named Dilbhag has been accused of pushing his wife Dr Simran to commit suicide as she failed to bring dowry

Amritsar: While doctors fighting the coronavirus pandemic are being hailed as living Gods and divine mediums to serve God's creatures and heal patients from pain, a doctor in Amritsar is being termed as a devil by his wife's family. Dilbhag, a doctor by profession has been accused of torturing and harassing his wife Dr Simran for dowry in Amritsar, Punjab. The couple has been married for a year and Dr Simran's family said that Dr Dilbhag demanded dowry so he could build a new hospital. They often indulged in fights and this forced Dr Simran to take the extreme step. Dr Simran who works at City Hospital injected herself with poison and was taken to Fortis Hospital for treatment. Doctors treating her said that Simran's condition is too critical and her survival chances are very slim. A case has been registered against Dr Dilbhag and police are on the hunt to nab him.
