Defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) is set to take on former champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 34 of the Indian Premier League 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. It would be a crucial clash for both sides, especially for KKR and as a loss could seriously dent its chances of making it to the playoffs.

Currently, there is a slight difference between the two sides. MI is placed fourth on the table, with four wins from eight games and eight points, while KKR is ranked sixth, with three wins from the same number of games, with six points.

Furthermore, MI has had a historical advantage over KKR. Nevertheless, MI pacer Trent Boult feels that the side needs to start afresh every time it takes on KKR, as past results hardly matter in the tournament or the format, besides asserting that the latter is indeed a tough side to beat.

"Every game is such a big game. Every match is important now. But, history is history. It is nice to have good results in our bag against KKR. They are a quality side. We would not take them lightly," he answered Newsable during the pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

Also, on being asked the challenges to bowl on the Abu Dhabi surface, he answered, "I think it's the conditions probably that influence the ball. The conditions are nice and humid, with more grass than we have seen in Dubai. Yeah, there are a lot of challenges that come with it, how fully you can bowl, and who you are bowling to and obviously, how aggressively the batsmen come at you."
