Karnataka residents in Goa left in lurch after state bus doubles ticket fares

Stranded Kannadigas in Goa are a distressed lot as fares to ferry them back to Karnataka now costs a bomb. Ticket for one person now costs Rs 3,000.

Amid coronavirus pandemic and enforced lockdown, losing their jobs in Goa was hard enough, but now stranded Karnataka residents have received another jolt in the form increased bus ticket fares to transport them back to their natives.

According to stranded residents in Goa, now Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus ticket costs Rs 3,000 per person. 

Many residents from North Karnataka's tribal pockets work in Goa's hotels, restaurants and pubs. And now due to lockdown, they have lost their jobs. Following the high rates to ferry them back, the residents protested near Goa-Karnataka border.
