BBMP health department takes up rapid testing at markets due to festivals
As markets and shops pose a risk of coronavirus infection during festivals, the BBMP health department took the rapid testing of street vendors who sell flowers, fruits and other items during Varamahalakshmi festival.
Bengaluru: With festivals being celebrated during COVID-19 times, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken up a massive rapid testing drive of street vendors. The initiative from the BBMP health department has begun from Wilson Garden market area as hundreds of residents gather at shops to buy flowers and fruits as an offering to goddesses Lakshmi on the occasion of Varamahalakshmi festival today (July 31).
As per the chief health officer Dr Vijendra, the market places are risky for the public during festivals. And, at the same time the poor also need to earn hence this rapid testing was taken up.
Based on the test results, if a person among street vendors and shops is found positive or have influenza-like symptoms, he or she will be subjected to quarantine and further treatment.
