TTV Dhinakaran warns party members with dire consequences if they attend general council meeting

Sidelined AIADMK Deputy General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran on Friday, September 1, warned party members from attending the September 12 general council and executive committee meetings called by the two factions of the newly merged party.

The estranged party leader had slammed Chief Minister E Palaniswami for calling the general body meeting. He said that only VK Sasikala, the party’s interim general secretary who is in a jail in Bengaluru, has the authority to call for the meeting.

TTV Dhinakaran has warned that strict action will be taken against those who attend the meeting.

Dhinakaran issued a statement saying that a meeting of the general council can be convened only when one fifth of the members give it in writing and it can be convened only by the general secretary.

AIADMK had held a meeting recently where it was decided to hold a general council meeting and to expel Sasikala and Dhinakaran from the party.

He said the September 12 meeting to be convened by Palaniswami and Panneerselvam is illegal.

Close to 19 MLAs have withdrawn their support from E Palaniswami. These MLAs will likely not attend the meeting. However, these MLAs have been served a notice by TN Assembly speaker on Friday to explain their position by 5 September.

The MLAs had approached Tamil Nadu Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing their support to Palaniswami-led AIADMK government. The DMK-led Opposition including Congress, CPI(M) and CPI have also asked the governor to direct Chief Minister E Palaniswami to prove his majority in a floor test in the assembly.

The Madras High Court will hear a PIL in this regard.
