Earlier a case had been filed against the former chief minister Jayalalithaa as she had filed nomination in more than two constituencies. In the nomination papers, she had given a declaration that she had not been nominated as a candidate for more than two constituencies. The cases against Jayalalithaa has been dismissed because of her death.
In 2001, J Jayalalithaa had filed a nomination for the Assembly election in four constituencies including Krishnagiri, Bhuvanagiri, Andipatti and Pudukkottai. Against this, the former DMK MP C Kuppusamy, who died on April 19, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court pointing out that the candidate could file nomination papers only in two constituencies.
It was reported that in each nomination form, she had given a declaration that she had not been or would not be nominated as a candidate for more than two constituencies.
Now, the Judges have dismissed the proceedings against the former Chief Minister due to her death.
