The Central Government has been trying to promote computer literacy in government schools in Tamil Nadu.

Under the 'Financial Assistance Programme - 2010', it was ordered to implement the ‘Smart Class Scheme’ in 5265 schools.
As the first phase of implementation, work began in 920 schools. Later the funding was suspended due to complaints of various violations. It was said that the violations had happened as the ‘tender system’ was not followed. So the plan remained dormant.
But the Central Government did not give up on this project and had been sending letters for the last six years insisting the state implement the scheme.
Now, the recent report says that the state government has planned to implement it this year.
It is also reported that the violations cannot happen again, as the ‘tender system’ has been followed as per the guidance of the central government.
It is stated that the software companies are chosen based on an explicit tender agreement.
The School Education Department of Tamil Nadu has planned to collaborate with the Samsung Company in implementing the scheme in Chennai Corporation Schools.
In addition to this, the government is planning to work with the other software companies.
The announcement on the tender will be made soon.
