Police in Hyderabad have arrested eight people, who allegedly were spotted in a disturbing video tying three puppies together and then setting them on fire. According to PTI the youngsters, including the one who recorded the gruesome act later were released on bail.

"Eight boys, aged between 10 to 17, were apprehended in connection with the incident and all of them have been now produced before a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB)," Musheerabad Police Station B Mohan Kumar told Deccan Chronicle.

The attack on dogs took place at a graveyard in Musheerabad area here on the afternoon of July 16 and came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media on July 19.

A group of youngsters caught three stray puppies and tied them together. They then dragged the hapless animals to some distance and put them into a fire made out of jute bags and dry sticks, Shreya Paropkari, an animal rights activist, said in a complaint filed with Musheerabad Police yesterday.

"One of the perpetrators recorded the entire incident and is heard instructing and instigating the others to set them on fire. The recordings were recovered from a fish stall owner in Musheerabad," she said in the complaint.

Following the complaint, a case was filed under IPC Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc,) and relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.

Following their arrest, NG Jayasimha, Managing Director of HSI/India in an official statement said:

"We hope that the Juvenile Justice Board takes swift and stern action for this inexplicable violence against defenceless puppies. A psychiatric evaluation should also be carried out."

"There is abundant research demonstrating that violence towards animals by children can be an indicator of other abused and potentially a predictor of serious anti-social behaviour in adulthood including criminal offences and violence towards women and children," he said in a statement.

Earlier, Shreya and Vasanthi Vadi, an activist with the NGO, People for Animals, met Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy and submitted the video clip of the incident.

Meanwhile, in another incident of cruelty to animal has come to light.

A video has surfaced showing a man killing a dog with an air gun, though it was not clear where or when the incident occurred, police said.

An animal rights activist approached the Nampally Police here and said he saw the video on Internet and sought necessary action, Inspector K Madhu Mohan Reddy said.

"We asked him to approach the Cyber Crime Police," Reddy said.

Humane Society International Director N G Jayasimha said "This particular video was received a couple of days ago (through HSI helpline). It was uploaded on Snapchat (a popular mobile app that allows one to send videos and pictures). We are announcing a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information leading to arrest of the person in the video."

This gory incident in Hyderabad has come weeks after two MBBS students flung a stray dog from the rooftop of a building in Chennai.

In July, a medical student in Chennai hurled a dog from a terrace, following which the police arrested him and his friend, who had filmed the incident. The duo, however, was soon released on bail on the same day.
