Metro Rail Link between Silk Board and KR Puram to ease Bengaluru

The government has given its nod to the proposed Metro Rail Link between the Central Silk Board Junction and KR Puram, a 17-km long stretch infamous for traffic and pain for the techies working in IT Corridor.

The authorities announced rail-cum-road bridge in this January and according to a report, Pradeep Singh Kharola, Managing Director of the BMRCL, confirmed that the completion of the bridge should not take more than three years.

The soil testing for the proposed bridge has already been done Kharola confirmed though he refrained from committing a date for the starting of the construction. He further commented that the authority is working on the detailed design and once it is finalised the process of tendering will begin.

The bridge will cost approximately ₹4,200 crore that will cover Metro Rail Link, elevated road bridge, the cost of shifting utilities, land acquisition cost and other collateral expenses, disclosed the Chief Public Relations Officer of BMRCL, Vasanth Rao.

It will be a two-layer bridge beginning at and reaching Silk Board station via BTM Layout. One Metro line will connect KR Puram, the other line will turn right at the Silk Board, and it will connect Electronic City.

The rail-cum-road bridge seems promising, and a blessing for the techies but the proposed cost of it definitely is the big question. How will this money be raised and how long it will take? Is the IT capital wealthy enough to execute this plan? These are a few questions that the authorities need to ponder over before going ahead with this ambitious plan.
