According to a report by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), as many as 546 technical snags were reported by various airlines in the country in the year 2022 and Indigo airline topped the list with 215 such incidents.

The DGCA also clarified that any increase in the number of departures during this period will be subject to the airline satisfying the regulator that it has sufficient technical support and financial resources to safely and efficiently undertake such enhanced capacity.

The airline came under regulatory surveillance in July after a series of incidents related to technical glitches. This led to an order from the DGCA on July 27 which limited the number of flights the airline could operate to 50% of its summer schedule for a period of 8 weeks.

On Wednesday, SpiceJet reported a net loss of Rs 789 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year as the company's business was severely impacted due to record high fuel prices and a depreciating rupee.

The latest announcement comes just days after SpiceJet was ordered by aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate only 50 per cent of approved flights for 8 weeks due to multiple snags reported by the airline.
