An explosion at Kalyan Jewelers in Ballari, Karnataka, injured six when a gas refilling malfunction in the store's air conditioning system caused a blast. Unprecedented in 25 years, the drought has exhausted innovative irrigation methods. Farmers face a bleak six-year wait for crops to mature, compounded by dried-up alternative income sources.

Another victim has stepped forward, leading to a second case. Prajwal and his father HD Revanna are implicated in a separate sexual harassment case. Revanna faces allegations of involvement in an obscene video scandal, with his former car driver, Kartik, at the centre. Kartik, who implicated himself in releasing the video, has now disappeared, raising suspicions and adding complexity to the case.

Speaking at a poll rally in Karnataka's Shivmogga, the Congress leader condemned the BJP's alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) and criticised PM Modi for seeking votes for what he termed a "mass rapist."

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for six districts in North Karnataka, including Belagavi and Bagalkot, as temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius.
