The Puthuppally seat fell vacant after the demise of Congress leader Oommen Chandy on July 18. The Election Commission on Tuesday (Aug 8) announced the by-election in Puthuppally to be held on September 5.

The Congress has fielded Chandy Oommen, son of late former CM Oommen Chandy, for the upcoming Puthuppally bypolls.

Congress veteran AK Antony's son Anil Antony joined the BJP in April this year. He was also recently appointed as party's National Vice-president in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

As Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan began to address the condolence meeting of Oommen Chandy, it was disrupted due to loud interference in the microphone. It approximately lasted about 16 seconds.

Several liquor outlets were closed in Kerala during the previous Oommen Chandy-led UDF regime. The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) and Consumerfed opened five liquor shops each in the state now.

Malayalam actor Vinayakan landed in trouble after he spoke ill of late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy through a Facebook Live video. The Youth Congress has filed a complaint against the actor to the DGP of Kerala. 

Former Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy had been ill since 2019, and throughout the course of the previous year, he had treatment at the Charite Hospital in Berlin, the NIMS Medicity in Thiruvananthapuram, and the Health Care Global Enterprises in Bengaluru. He breathed his last on July 18.

Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy passed away on Tuesday (July 18). He was 79. The news of the passing away of the veteran Congress leader was shared by his son Chandy Oommen. He breathed his last at Chinmaya Mission Hospital in Bengaluru at 4.25 am.
