Without warrant, why did cops search Yeddyurappa's house late in the night?

Bengaluru police who are investigating into the attempt to kidnap BJP Opposition leader KS Eshwarappa's personal assistant Vinay Kumar searched BJP State president BS Yeddyurappa's residence at Dollar's Colony late in the night. Police were looking for Santhosh, reported to be kin of Yeddyurappa, is suspected to have a role in the kidnap case.

Yeddyurappa has confirmed that a team led by Malleswaram ACP Arun Nayak Badiger reached Yeddyurappa's residence. Officials told Kannada Prabha that during the investigation, the alleged role of Santhosh in the kidnap attempt came to light. In this regard, they searched the BJP leader's residence around 10.30 pm. However, they could not go inside as the security guard clarified to them that Santhosh was not at home.

It may be recalled here that at least eight miscreants tried to kidnap Vinay near ISKCON temple on May 11. However, their plans were thwarted as Vinay screamed for help. Vinay, later, had lodged a complaint with Mahalakshmi police.

The police have already arrested Rajendra Urs, general secretary of BJP Yuva Morcha and Urs has reportedly told the police about Santhosh's role. With this information, the police went to search Yeddyurappa's house, reports Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa has dashed off a letter to City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood complaining about the police search without a warrant. "I'm bringing to your notice through this letter a case of serious conduct during investigation on part of the Bengaluru City police. NR Santhosh is my relative and he is working with me for the past several years. On July, ACP Badiger and his team members came to my house. They asked our security people to show Santhosh's room. As he was not at my house, the police left," Yeddyurappa wrote. He also went on to say that the police officers were determined to fix Santhosh as an accused in a case and according his knowledge, he (Santhosh) was not involved. There was no need for the police to come to my house, reports Deccan Chronicle.

"We did not have the search warrant to go to Yeddyurappa's house. We just went to question there. We did not enter his house. Is it possible to conduct search without a warrant," an officer told Kannada Prabha. But how did they just go? 

Meanwhile, Santhosh is reportedly hiding in a relative's house at Nonavinakere near Tiptur. The investigating officers have left for Nonavinakere.
