Shocking In 75 days revenue department recovered a whopping 2224 crore from 240 acres encroached land

The revenue department which is going full swing in recovering its encroached land  was stunned by its own collection as the 240 acres land recovered in last 75 days is worth Rs 2,224 crores.  The officials say the landlords made duplicate documents.

The land value in Bengaluru specially in extension area sells like hot cakes and hence the agents and few landowners tweak land records and fence government land.

"The encroachers are aware of government action and hence they usually make layouts and sell it to poor buyers. Some of the encroachers use the land to drill borewells and supply water, build sheds to rent it for shops. Based on the tipoff we prepare our records and launch a sudden attack along with police and reclaim the land. Few weeks before the raids, a notice is sent and then we suddenly raid. Immediately after the reclamation, we fence and put our board," said, V Shankar, Deputy Commissioner Bengaluru Urban.

The officer also added that, the raids are done only on Saturday and starting from March 18 till date, in 75 days, the department has recovered lands of prime location. These reclaimed costs between from Rs 5,000 per sqft to Rs 12,000 per sqft.

"Our accounts department has said that the reclaimed land of 240 acres from five taluks  like Anekal, Bengaluru South,Bengaluru East, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru,North Additional  is over Rs  2,000 crore and we ourselves were stunned by the total value," he said.

Bengaluru South Tasildhar  Shivakumar who is also part of DC 's team that prepares the raid list says, the owners usually use the same survey number of their land and fence the government land like forest, lake, grazing and 'karab' (waste).

"Since the land value is very much, the encroachers consider it safe to sell it to innocent buyers and then invest the same money in other projects. We have been advising people to check the papers and map with local revenue office and office of tasildhar before buying property," he said. Had the department not taken these land on time, there were chances of  encroachers turning it into a layout to sell it to home buyers.
