Work on turning the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway into a six-lane corridor will begin in the next six months.

Speaking at an event organized by Institution of Engineers (India) in Bengaluru on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, BT Jwalendra Kumar, project director, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that the final date for submission of bids for the expressway project is July 28.

The New Indian Express quoted him saying, “Nearly ten companies, including foreign firms from Malaysia, have already expressed interest in this project. We will soon finalize the companies for the project which is divided into two packages once the bids are submitted.”

The expressway also has backing from Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The proposed expressway will run for a length of 117 km between NICE entrance in Bengaluru and the ring road junction near the Columbia Asia Hospital in Mysuru. The proposed road is expected to bring down the travel time to 90 minutes.

The toll for a car from Bengaluru and Mysuru on the expressway will be around Rs 200. The cost of construction of the project will be Rs 4,700 crore, and land acquisition will need another Rs 2,700 crore, he said.

Jwalendra Kumar said another proposed Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway starting at Hoskote is expected to reduce travel time to nearly two and half hours.

The expressways will come as a major relief to people travelling to these cities.
