Bengaluru British Council library shuts its doors due to H1N1scare

The British Council library, Bengaluru has shut its doors temporarily due to H1N1 scare. The library also asked for cooperation from its members. This decision came as an aftermath of several H1N1 cases reported in Karnataka.

A notice issued by British Council also stated that they have had a confirmed case of H1N1 in the library and thus as a precautionary measure, they are shutting their doors temporarily.

“There have been cases of the H1N1 virus in Bengaluru. We have had a confirmed case of H1N1 in the library and as a precautionary measure, we are closing the office for a deep clean, effective Saturday, March 18, 2017. We hope to have this completed soon and to reopen on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. If there is any delay, we will inform you,” a notice issued by the British Council stated.

“The library is closed from Saturday (March 18) to Monday (March 20) and we aim to reopen on Tuesday as usual. We will be making hand sanitizers available in the library and the washrooms. Please do use them and remain vigilant for symptoms. We will do our best to resume normal opening hours soon and we will keep you posted of any further developments,” the notice further read.

According to the statistics of Karnataka health and family welfare department, 1207 cases of H1N1 have been reported between January – March 2017, which is 10 times more than last year. The pre-monsoon rains could well be one of the prime reasons for this sudden spurt.

“Following a confirmed case, we did an internal review and decided as a precaution to do a deep clean at our library. For privacy's sake, we prefer not to give specifics. It is one case only. As we are aware of other cases in Bengaluru not associated with the library, we wanted to take this opportunity to do a preventive cleaning,“ a British Council official was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
