Piyush Chawla loses father due to post-COVID-19 complications
Piyush Chawla is an Indian leg-spinner who has represented India across formats. The 32-year-old was a part of India during its 2011 ICC World Cup title win. His father had contracted and recovered from COVID-19 earlier but succumbed to post-infection complications.
Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla is the latest Indian cricketing member to be hit by a family tragedy due to COVID-19. He has lost his father due to the same reason.
Pramod Kumar Chawla had been diagnosed with COVID-19 a few months back before making a complete recovery. However, the post-infection complications led to his demise, with him breathing his last on Monday morning.
Chawla sent out an Instagram post, where he shared a photo of his now late father, with the message reading, “With deepest grief, we announce that my beloved father, Mr Pramod Kumar Chawla, left for the heavenly abode on 10th May 2021. He was suffering from covid and post covid complications. We invite your kind thoughts and prayers in this difficult times. May his noble soul rest in peace.”
Chawal captioned the post, reading, “Life won’t be same without him anymore, lost my pillar of strength today. 😒🙏🏻“
Chawla’s current Indian Premier League franchise also expressed grief on the situation. “Our thoughts go out to Piyush Chawla, who lost his father, Mr Pramod Kumar Chawla, this morning. We are with you and your family in this difficult time. Stay strong,” it wrote on Twitter.
Former Indian cricketer and Chawla’s teammate Irfan Pathan, too, paid his tributes. “My dear brother Piyush Chawla’s father, Pramod uncle, is no more. My deepest condolences to you & your family. I pray that you go thru this difficult time with patience. Uncle was a great soul and full of life. COVID has taken one more life,” he wrote on Twitter.
Chawla is one of the members of the Indian cricket community whose family has been affected by COVID. Earlier on Sunday, Rajasthan Royals’ uncapped Indian pacer Chetan Sakariya had lost his father because of COVID. Also, MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin’s family members had tested COVID positive recently, including Indian umpire Nitin Menon.
