Sexy Durga, featuring Rajshree Deshpande and Kannan Nayar, is the third film by Sanal. His earlier films Oralppokkam and Ozhivudivasathe Kali had won several recognitions including the state film awards. Ozhivudivasathe Kali follows five middle-aged men who get together for a booze party during an election holiday in Kerala. It won the 46th Kerala State Film Award for Best Film, while in Oralppokkam, the storyline of the movie revolves round an honest man-woman relationship in the backdrop of a natural calamity.

Sanal says that Sexy Durga is a scriptless movie. The movie is being touted as a realistic erotic thriller which discusses the issue of moral policing. The movie is releasing in theatres in Kerala on January 27.

A young couple hitches a ride on a truck in the middle of the night on an Indian highway. Their journey leads them to meet six different men in the span of the night The duo attempt to escape the pressure but are unable to.

The movie opens with a woman, Durga (Rajashri Despande), waiting on a highway in the middle of the night - till Kabeer (Kannan Nair) arrives. Both have planned to travel to Chennai by train but for this they need to reach the station first; the only possible way for them was to take a lift from a passing trucker. Unfortunately, the small truck that stops by has two drunk men at the wheel.

The ride for the couple turns nightmarish as one of the men's behaviour towards Durga makes her uncomfortable and terrified, and a point comes when she is desperately trying to get off. The men do not allow this, cautioning them that highway is dangerous at night.

The duo meet many strange men in a night which never seems to end on a road, which never appears to lead to a train station. The drama heightens, and the already difficult journey for the couple, takes on more twists and turns.

In an interview with a daily, scriptwriter Sanal said the movie would convey the painful truth of our country. He said, "While women are revered and worshipped as mothers and daughters, they are also exploited and subject to terrible cruelty by the society. The movie (Sexy Durga) will show a true story how the community dishonours and humiliating a woman when she is sexually abused, sensationalising the incident and viewing the outrage as a social, religious and political issue."

Sanalkumar did something similar in Ozhivudivasathe Kali, turning the spotlight on booze and the after effects in the lives of Kerala men. Let’s see how Sexy Durga pans out.
