Workers from at least three assembly constituencies staged protests from afternoon onwards. BJP leaders Shiv Prakash, Arjun Singh, and Mukul Roy were outraged.
Panchla and Udayanarayana BJP workers-supporters first started protesting in Hastings on Monday afternoon. Slogans were raised in the streets. They broke the barricade and tried to enter the BJP office. There was a scuffle with the police.
Many protestors fell on the streets during the scuffle. The police struggled to control the situation. BJP workers have made allegations against BJP candidate Mohit Ghanti of Panchla. Besides, they claim that Mohit got the ticket to the BJP due to his closeness with Rajib Banerjee.
Meanwhile, Mukul Roy, Shiv Prakash, Arjun Singh, Sabyasachi Dutta faced protests. Later, Sabyasachi assured that the dissatisfaction with the candidates would be sent to the central leadership in Delhi for consideration. The BJP workers in Panchla and Udaynarayanpur calmed down a little after hearing Sabyasachi’s statement.
On the other hand, BJP workers in Raidighi started protesting in front of the BJP office. The commotion started demanding the withdrawal of Shantanu Bapuli's candidature. They tried to enter the BJP office.
