NASA astronauts feast on tacos with chilli peppers grown in space
Tacos are a definite yes for Friday Feasts, not just on Earth, but in space too!
Tacos are a definite yes for Friday Feasts, not just on Earth, but in space too! On Friday (October 29), four NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) treated themselves to the 'best tacos' filled with chilli peppers grown in space. The space grown green chilli peppers took four months to yield fruits, photos of which were shared by NASA astronaut Meghan McArthur through her social media account.
In an official release by NASA earlier, the space agency mentioned that chilli cultivation is part of its Plant Habitat-04 (PH-04) experiment. Owing to the long germination and growing duration, cultivation of chilli in space is by far the most complex experiment till date.
This is, however, not the first time that NASA astronauts have carried out cultivation in space. Since 2015, astronauts have grown and eaten 10 different crops on the International Space Station.
NASA has been undertaking cultivation experiments in a bit to explore ways to sustain lives of space explorers who venture on missions beyond low-Earth orbit, including Mars, and missions that last for months or every years.
