World War II began on 1 September 1939, with the invasion of Poland by Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. Over the years, India has forgotten its role in the war. At a time when India was fighting for its own freedom from the British, almost 2.5 million Indians joined the British Army, to fight on various fronts in the war. Not just its manpower, India supplied its financial as well as industrial resources.
