Uttarakhand: Dramatic video of glacial burst captured on cam, people alerted to move to higher places

Uttarakhand: In an absolutely dramatic video captured by locals, a glacial burst flood hit the village in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

According to reports, the surging water level has damaged the hydro power unit called Vishnu Prayag and water is rapidly flowing towards Koteshwar dam in Srinagar.

The water is said to merge into Ganga and flow towards Rishikesh, Haridwar and onwards towards the plains. The water level is already higher than the devastating 2013 floods in Garhwal.

Chamoli SP Yashwant Singh Chauhan said that the team has been rushed to the spot. The loss will be determined later. Rishiganga Power Project has been damaged due breach of a glacier in Tapovan area. People living on the bank of Alaknanda river are advised to move to safe places at the earliest, said the police. 

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat tweeted and appealed to people not to pay heed to rumours. Administration has been alerted. Ppeople have been asked to move to higher places. Adventure sports activities have been stopped along the river. This inundation of water will travel about 250 km. In the meantime it will be known later how much damage it has caused.
