Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin further than anyone else in the competition and struck Gold.

Celebrations had already started when Neeraj threw an 87.58m in his first attempt.

Euphoria was witnessed as Neeraj Chopra thew the javelin 84.24m in his sixth and last attempt. India won the gold, the first athlete in the history of Indian athletics to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field. 

Earlier, Milkha Singh had finished fourth in the 400m race at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, which was the best performance by Indian athletes in track and field events to date.

The celebrations won't be stopping anytime soon.
