If everything goes as per plan, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will plant a whopping 75,000 tree saplings in 2019. The deputy conservator of forest, BBMP, said the budget files are in the final stage and will issue work orders to execute the planting in June and July.

Bengaluru: Known for axing trees and taking up projects that harm the environment, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will now plant 75,000 tree saplings.

According to Cholaraj, deputy conservator of forest, BBMP, last year, Rs 5 crore budget was approved but due to technical issues the tree sapling activity could not be taken up and now the files have been sent to the special commissioner, finance department and the BBMP Commissioner. Once it gets approval, the work order will be issued to the contractors concerned after winning the tender.

BBMP has eight zones and in each zone, the BBMP plans to plant 5,000 to 10,000 saplings. The BBMP will also plant tree saplings in corporate areas and public places and look for space between roads to plant avenue trees like Honge, Mahagony, Tabebuia and other species.
