Vizag gas leak: 8-member team arrives at LG Polymers to inspect cause of incident

The technical team comprising experts from production, environment, and safety areas will investigate the cause of the Vizag gas leak in Andhra Pradesh and support rehabilitation, which is the main objective of the task force

Visakhapatnam: An eight member team from Seoul (South Korea) headquarters of LG, led by the company president reached Visakhapatnam on Wednesday where its group firm LG Polymers saw a toxic gas leakage accident that killed 12 persons and affected hundreds. The team will work closely on-ground with the district authorities to resolve the situation and send back a report of the incident to Andhra Pradesh government and company headquarters in South Korea.

The hazardous gas leakage from LG Polymer’s factory at Gopalapatnam area of Visakhapatnam in the early hours of last Thursday left hundreds ill from the noxious fumes, while over 1,000 persons were exposed to the toxic styrene gas. Earlier on Wednesday, as per directions of the Andhra Pradesh government, experts in a successful operation sent back 8 million tonnes of styrene gas to South Korea. The affected zones are under surveillance of district authorities at RR Venkatapuram.
