Protesters to form human chain demanding scrapping of annexe building project in Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park

After the high court gave the Karnataka government permission to construct a multi-storied building at the site of the erstwhile Election Commission office, Cubbon Park Walkers Association, environmental activists and nature lovers, protested on Sunday. Protesters will form a human chain on Saturday demanding that the government scrap the project.

After a series of protests concerning the controversial steel bridge project connecting Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal in the past, the city is gearing up for another similar agitation. On Sunday hundreds of activists joined Cubbon Park Walkers Association demanding that the government scrap the annexe building project in Cubbon Park limits.

Recently the high court permitted the Public Works Department to construct a seven-storied building in place of the old building which used to function as the office of the Election Commission. Protesters have asked the government to scrap the project or face public wrath. On November 9, to pressure the BS Yediyurappa government, the agitators will form a human chain from the same heritage building.
