Two masked robbers looted a Lalithaa Jewellery showroom in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy. The incident came to light the following morning after employees entered the store and found a section of valuables missing.

Trichy: Men wearing the masks of a cat and a dog made away with jewels worth several crores from a popular store - Lalithaa Jewellery in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

The employees found a whole section missing when they came into work the following day. Gold and diamond jewellery estimated at about 100kg worth many crores are missing.

CCTV footage captured at the store shows two men — one wearing a dog mask and another a cat mask — entering the ground floor of the store with duffel bags in hand.

The thieves drilled a hole for passage and broke into the store.

The robbery, which appears to have been meticulously planned, saw the burglars wear gloves. Reports also suggest that criminals had also sprinkled chilli powder to throw the sniffer dogs off their scent. The district police has formed seven special teams to nab the thieves. In addition to examining CCTV footage of the area, the police has also reportedly sought a log of guests at nearby lodges and hotels.
