Man goes to buy medicine on bike, gets booted by ASI; suspended after video goes viral
Chamarajanagar District Superintendent Divya Sara Thomas on June 2 issued an order of suspension against assistant sub-inspector Ramaswamy for his misbehavior with the public and kicking a youth.
The district that was in news for the wrong reason after 24 people died due to the oxygen crisis in the government hospital on May 2 and 3, further faced criticism due to a police action.
A video of a police officer kicking a public and seizing his bike in Kollegal Police station limits despite showing a medical receipt went viral. An inquiry was ordered and the officer was suspended on June 2.
The incident of police beating the public during lockdown is not new, earlier a transgender from Kolar was beaten and paraded by a woman SI and a similar incidents of using lathis against the public was reported from across Karnataka.
A PIL was filed seeking action against the police but the court dismissed the petition and also fined the petitioner.
